LOWER NINTH WARD HOMEOWNER’S ASSOCIATION FESTIVAL

Bike Easy will be hosting a Bike Rodeo on August 26, from 11am to 4pm at the Lower 9th Ward Festival. The Bike Rodeo is a bike course geared at getting kids comfortable riding a bicycle while learning the basic rules of the road, signaling, turning, and stopping. Bike Easy will have instructors present throughout the day to teach bike safety and basic bike control techniques. Participants will also receive a Bike Easy Activity Book.

YOUTH LEARN TO RIDE

The morning of August 26th start with a Youth Learn to Ride from 8am to 10am. It is a free group class for children aged 5 and up who are ready to ride a two-wheeler for the first time. With our safe and efficient method taught by experienced instructors, kids will learn how to balance, pedal, start, stop, and steer a bicycle. Most students get the hang of it in one session, but even if they don’t, families will be able to observe a simple, low-stress technique that will have their kids riding independently.

ADULT LEARN TO RIDE

On August 26th, from 10am to noon, Bike Easy will also host the Adult Learn to Ride. The class is for people over the age of 15 years old who have never learned to ride. You’ll learn the basics of bike riding; balance, pedaling, braking and turning. The class is designed to be semi-private. There might be one, two, or three other participants in a scheduled class.

The Adult Learn to Ride class is 2 hours and is offered at a sliding scale $50-100 (if any price is a barrier for you – please let us know and we’ll do our best to accommodate you!).

*Both the Youth and Adult Learn to Ride Classes will be held at the NORD Clubhouse (1891 St. Louis Street) located on the Lafitte Greenway.

Join Bike Easy for our two-day course, Smart Biking, Friday, September 8th, from 6 to 9 pm, and Saturday, September 9th, from 10am to 3pm.

Students will learn about choosing a bicycle, basic parts of a bike, essential equipment, as well as how to safely and comfortably ride your bike in various traffic conditions, terrains, and climates. Instruction will leave participants feeling safe and confident on the road in any traffic situation.

A Smart Biking certificate is awarded upon completion of the course that allows one to volunteer with Bike Easy at educational events.

Those who complete the course will also receive Bike Easy swag that includes a patch kit, tire levers, bike lights, and a Smart Cycling Guide.

Note: The certificate also satisfies the required per-requisite to attend our LCI Seminar for FREE (normally a $500 course!), October 13-15, which allows one to work as a paid contractor for Bike Easy. If you cannot attend, but are excited to become certified, please contact laura@bikeeasy.org

PEOPLE FRIENDLY DRIVING

Join Bike Easy, on ZOOM, September 28th, from 5:30-6:30pm, for our free People Friendly Driving Workshop!

Learn about common crashes and how to avoid them, safety tips and techniques, and discover how to navigate bicycle infrastructure on the roadways.

Did you know Louisiana Law requires all drivers to give people on foot and bicycles at least three feet of space when passing? Learn life-saving practices and techniques such as “Look Before You Open.”

Students who complete the class and post-class exam will receive a complimentary Bike Easy membership, as well as be awarded and mailed a People Friendly Driver Certificate and window decal for their participation.

Click here RSVP to receive the Zoom link to People Friendly Driving.

We hope to see you there!

LEAGUE OF AMERICAN BICYCLISTS LCI SEMINARBike Easy will be hosting the League of American Bicyclists, from October 13-15, for a three-day, bike intensive course that will teach participants everything there is to know about bicycles as well as how to teach others in a classroom setting.

From the League of American Bicyclists website: “After earning certification through a three-day, League Coach-led seminar, LCIs can teach a variety of Smart Cycling classes to children as well as adults, helping them feel more confident and secure about riding. From our youth focused classes to our Bicycle Friendly Driver curriculum, LCIs can educate people who bike and drive how to safely and legally share the road.

As a League Cycling Instructor, you could be the reason one more person chooses to hop on the saddle — and do so with confidence. LCIs have access to educational materials developed by the League and can take part in opportunities to meet other educators, continue their own education, and learn how to be an advocate for better biking in your community.”

* Bike Easy can offer scholarships (normally a $500 course) to 8 participants in total. The SMART BIKING class offered September 9th is a PREREQUISITE to attending the LCI SEMINAR!

See you in the streets!
