Introduce more new riders and promote more ways for regular riders to connect – Join the Bike Easy Challenge!

Bike Easy Challenge will be back for a third year, from April 1 – 30, and this year we’re aiming for over 1500 people to log rides and 150 organizations to get involved across the region. Throughout the month of April we will organize various meet-ups, workshops, Blue Bikes sessions, and Challenge check-ins to make certain participants have a reason to get on their bikes. Register today!

When I first joined Bike Easy as an intern, after volunteering for a couple of bike valets, the first event I went to was the 2017 Bike to Work Day. I rode in to Lafayette Square from where I live in mid-city to folks cheering and got there just in time to get a bagel from Virginia, the lead organizer of Bike to Work Day, and hear some remarks from Dan, Bike Easy’s Executive Director. Recognizing that not everyone can or wants to bike to work, and wanting to encourage even more folks to ride, Virginia helped expand Bike to Work Day into the month long competition we know as the Bike Easy Challenge. This helps include people who might not bike to work but hop on their bike to get groceries, take a ride with friends, or pick up a book from the library. Now, as a staff member helping organize the 2019 Bike Easy Challenge and Bike to Work Day, I am excited to get more riders on the road and organizations supporting those riders!

The Bike Easy Challenge utilizes the Love to Ride platform where riders log their trips, organizations form teams, and everyone can encourage each other with messages and pictures. Last year, on top of strong participation from our city, folks in St. Tammany and Jefferson Parish also participated in the Challenge. There are many ways to win prizes by encouraging your fellow riders and forming a team with your organization or workplace, but the easiest is by riding for at least 10 minutes (and logging the ride afterwards)! Although the Challenge doesn’t start until April 1, you can register on the Love to Ride platform today!

The Bike Easy Challenge Planning Committee is in the midst of planning various events like happy hours, Bike to Work Day on April 10, pit stops, and lunch and learns – all to provide many opportunities to get out there and ride. Stay tuned as we add more to the calendar!

Ride a bike and log your rides for the Bike Easy Challenge – our region’s free biking competition, April 1 – 30, for individuals or teams to compete for points, badges, and possible prize giveaways. Register today!
