Get certified with Bike Easy!

As we’re seeing an unprecedented amount of bikeway expansion in the city this year, education around safe biking and how to share the roadways is more important than ever. By becoming a League Cycling Instructor (LCI), you will gain the skills and knowledge to help New Orleans become a safer bicycling community and help Bike Easy educate Greater New Orleans about bike safety.

WHAT IS A LEAGUE CYCLING INSTRUCTOR?

League Cycling Instructor are certified by the League of American Bicyclists (LAB) to teach Smart Cycling classes to children and adults. The goal of an LCI is to help people feel more secure about getting on a bike, create a mindset that bikes are treated as a vehicle, and to ensure that people on bikes know how to ride safely and legally. LCIs with Bike Easy will also learn how to educate drivers safely sharing the road with people biking and walking as part of our People Friendly Driving Program.

LCIs are members of the LAB and must complete an intense and comprehensive 3-day seminar training. Certified instructors are active within the bicycling community and are covered by the League’s liability insurance.

WORKING WITH BIKE EASY

To become a paid Bike Easy Instructor at our events, individuals must be certified as an LCI. The national certification is obtained by completing the League of American Bicyclists (LAB) cycling curriculum. The curriculum includes a 9-hour training called Smart Biking and a three-day LCI Seminar. Certified instructors are required to keep their membership and certifications current with the LAB by maintaining minimum teaching requirements (i.e. using your certification to teach bike safety!). Bike Easy Instructors also attend one professional development session with Bike Easy each year and receive extra training and support to best apply their bicycle education skills to our work in the Greater New Orleans area.
