Happy Friday! The last couple of months have been really busy at Bike Easy, and we want to share some of our highlights, and upcoming events with you!
A History of Biking in New Orleans: Promoting Active Transportation through Community, Education and Advocacy
On Wednesday, November 9th Bike Easy presented at the APA Conference in partnership with the New Orleans Health Department. Apart from going over the history of biking in New Orleans, we discussed our programs, and the ways we have partnered with the Health Department to promote the growth of the bikeway network, and highlight the benefits of biking for everyone in Greater New Orleans. We are hoping to share and abbreviated version of this presentation with our supporters in the future, so please stay tuned!
Successful return of the well-beloved Bicycle Second Line!
After 3 years, the Bicycle Second Line returned to the streets of New Orleans reminding us once again why this is one of our signature events! It was great to see so many familiar faces and new ones! One of our attendees was actually someone who had just learned to ride a couple weeks prior during our Adult Learn to Ride class. Walk & Roll Week 2022
We held our Youth Walk & Roll week in early October this year, and encouraged folks to use some of the Education Resources we have available in our site in English AND Spanish! We celebrated the end of the week with a family ride on the Lafitte Greenway!
Additionally, we helped certified 9 new League Certified Instructors that will help us expand our programming, held the Nola to Angola Road Riding and Maintenance Workshop, and partnered with Blue Bikes on the most recent bike light and helmet giveaway in Central City.
Annual Membership Party 2022
We’re thrilled to hold this year’s End of Year Membership Party IN PERSON at Skeeta Hawk Brewing on Tuesday, December 6 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. RSVP Here. Our program will include updates on our Programs, introduction of our new Board officers, a preview of our strategic plan, free drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), food while supplies last, and some other exciting additions. - Saturday, November 12 – 10:00 am to 2:00 pm – We will be tabling at the FREE Family Day event at the Ogden Museum.
- Saturday, November 12 – 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm – We will be tabling at the All Things Fest event hosted at IATSE Local 478
- Wednesday, November 16 – 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm – We will be hosting a Night Riding Workshop in partnership with Heat Index. The workshop will take place at the Bike Easy office, and will include a 5-10 mile bike ride at the end. RSVP here
- Sunday, November 20 – 11:00 am (Meet up at 10:00 am) – We will be joining the folks from NOLA Fixed for this year’s Cranksgiving! Click here to learn more!
Help us celebrate our 20th Anniversary in 2023!
Yes! We are turning 20 in 2023, and would love your help in making this a huge celebration of our community, and our wins! If you are interested in joining the planning committee for our birthday, please email Allene La Spina at allene@bikeeasy.org – We will be meeting a couple times a month from now till the end of the year, and will continue to meet throughout 2023. We hope to make this a year-long celebration, and are open to all of your ideas!
