A letter from our Acting ED with some important announcements!

It’s been a while since I wrote to you, and we have a bit to catch up!  A lot has happened in the last few months, and I want to make sure to fill you in.  So, get your reading glasses, and calendar ready:

We have a brand new Board of Directors!

We are excited to have 15 Board Members to help our organization move forward, and continue the work to make bicycling easy, safe, and fun for everyone in Greater New Orleans.  Apart from bringing an array of skills and knowledge to the table, you can find most of our Board Members volunteering their time at many of our in-person events coming up.  Read more about them here.

Bike Valet is having a busy season!

Apart from continuing or FREE Bike Valet service for the rest of the YLC Wednesday at the Square season, we’re excited to announce our new partnership with the New Orleans Arts District to bring Bike Valet to Jammin’ on Julia on Saturday, May 7th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

We’re wrapping up this year’s Bike Easy April Challenge!

This year’s challenge included some great in-person events, a big Bike to Work celebration at City Hall, plus some great stats:

  • 86 Workplaces
  • 556 Riders – 84 New Riders
  • 63,396 Miles
  • 6,649 Trips
  • 8,722 Lb Co2 saved!

We’re wrapping up this year’s challenge with our traditional crawfish boil to be held on Saturday, April 30th from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Bike Easy’s Parking Lot.  RSVP here!

We’re launching our #JoinUp Campaign on Give Nola Day!

We have an ambitious goal to raise 25K for this year’s Give Nola Day, and mark with it the launch of our #JoinUp campaign to run for all of Membership Month.  This year’s Membership Month will highlight Bike Easy’ community of members, what membership means, and the value it provides members.

We’re extending our Happy Hour Fridays series!

We had so much fun catching up with so many of you in April, that we’re extending our Happy Hour Fridays series for Membership Month!  Join us for drink specials, and learn more about the benefits of being a Bike Easy member.  It is also a great way for you to earn more about our programs, meet some of our Board members, voice your ideas and concerns, and just stay in the know!  Hope to see you there.

The Bicycle Second Line is back!

Yes! The rumors are true.  The Bicycle Second Line is coming back this year, and our Board is giddy with excitement about it as they put together a celebration worth remembering!  So, mark your calendars for Saturday, May 28th!  Stay tuned for more details!

We need your help!

Last week, our beloved Bike Easy trailer was stolen from OC Haley Blvd, including our youth bike fleet, bike rodeo props, helmets, tools, and 7 years of history.  We are devastated, and are currently working with a local organization in the area to work our a more permanent, and secure solution to store what will need to be replaced.

Donate to help us replace the stolen youth fleet and equipment!

Education Programs coming up

Bike Easy Instructors are highly-qualified bicycle educators who lead or support our safety workshops and other events.

To be eligible for these paid opportunities, Instructors go a through rigorous training program from the League of American Bicyclists along with supplementary training from Bike Easy, and there are opportunities for interested individuals to participate in the necessary courses this summer with costs covered by Bike Easy.

Check the classes coming up!

I may be missing some things, but for now, I hope all this information is useful for you!

In service,

Allene La Spina
