We’re rolling into 2021 with lots of momentum. From the Complete Streets campaign’s recent successes, to news of a big step towards bike share returning to New Orleans, we’re excited for what the rest of 2021 will bring us. Here’s a preview of what’s already happened and a peak into what’s coming up. Bike Infrastructure Workshop Thursday 1/28 @ 6pmWith so much new street safety infrastructure popping up around New Orleans, we’re excited to offer this free virtual workshop on bike infrastructure. We’ll cover the different types of bike infrastructure you’ll see on the streets, as well as how to safely navigate whether biking, walking or driving. We’ll also give some updates on the Complete Streets projects happening around the city!

Movement Monthly – Tuesday 2/2 @ 6pmWe’re proud to be a part of the New Orleans Complete Streets Coalition and to support the Coalition’s efforts in bringing more safety and less stress to our streets. In a short time, this Coalition has helped bring nearly 12 miles of protected bikeways to New Orleans streets, and is planning to help bring over 50 more this year. Every month, the Coalition hosts Movement Monthly, a monthly meeting for volunteers to get updates and join the campaign. Bike Share Is Building Momentum for a Return to New OrleansThe New Orleans City Council unanimously approved the cooperative endeavor agreement with Blue Krewe, a new non-profit, to start the process of bringing bike share back to New Orleans. This new iteration of bike share in New Orleans will be for and by the people of New Orleans, and is planned to launch this fall. Read more about it on our blog here. The Ribbon is Cut on Elysian Fields’ Newest Protected BikewaysOur Executive Director, Dan Favre, joined Mayor LaToya Cantrell and Councilmember Kristin Palmer in welcoming New Orleans’ newest protected bikeways: Elysian Fields, from St. Claude to the river. On Elysian Fields and Burgundy, they cut the ribbon not just for one street, but for a new era of easy, safe, and fun biking in Greater New Orleans. Check out the ceremony here. 2nd Round of Complete Streets Activation Mini Grants Now Open for ApplicationsThe first round of the Complete Streets Activation Mini Grant helped fund great projects like a bike light giveaway and family ride in Algiers. Especially as more protected bikeways continue being built, we’re excited to see what this second round of mini grants will accomplish.
