Safer St. Claude
Safer St. Claude is a community-led campaign spearheaded by Bike Easy and the New Orleans Complete Streets Coalition, aimed at transforming St. Claude Avenue into a safer, more accessible corridor for people walking, biking, and rolling. Spanning seven historic neighborhoods and serving over 10,000 residents—many of whom rely on biking, transit, or walking—the corridor currently experiences high traffic volumes and a troubling rate of serious traffic crashes.
At its core, the campaign advocates for infrastructure upgrades guided by the city’s Complete Streets Policy. Recommendations include installing protected bike lanes (to prevent hazards such as illegal parking and dooring), safer pedestrian crossings, ADA-compliant intersections, traffic calming, and green infrastructure to mitigate flooding and revitalize the street’s character.
