David Lee Simmons is an award-winning journalist and communications professional with a deep passion for walkability, complete streets, and bike infrastructure policy and awareness. As the Deputy Communications Director for Mayor LaToya Cantrell, David Lee joined a New Orleans delegation that in 2019 studied the bike, pedestrian and transit infrastructure of Sevilla, Spain, in advance of the Mayor’s Transportation Action Plan, called Moving New Orleans: The Road to Equitable Transportation. As the Mobility and Safety Outreach Manager with DPW and Roadwork NOLA, David Lee led community engagement efforts for several related projects that included the reconfiguration of MLK Jr. Boulevard in Central City, updates to the ADA Transition Plan, the North Lopez pedestrian bridge near the Lafitte Greenway, new ADA-compliant curb ramps in Algiers Point, and the reconfiguration of A.P. Tureaud Avenue, and initial outreach for the recently completed renovation of the DeSaix Bridge. David Lee can be found biking to work on the Lafitte Greenway or out on the NOLA Social Ride when not biking out to the Lakefront. He lives with his wife, son and Australian Cattle Dog in the Navarre neighborhood, overlooking his first major project, the reconfigured bike lanes on Orleans Avenue and Marconi Drive.
