Bike Easy is gearing up to offer its next round of Smart Biking classes.
Smart Biking is a free course designed to help anyone feel comfortable safely riding a bike in traffic.
Upon completion of all three sessions, a Smart Biking certificate will be awarded, and participants will eligible to join our team of paid bike safety education volunteers, as well as become eligible to go on to take the LCI seminar to be able to work for Bike Easy as a League Certified Instructor.
The class, formerly titled “Traffic Safety 101”, is structured in three sessions:
Session 1 – Getting to Know Your Bike and Your Rights (in-class/off-bike)
Topics: Choosing a bike, adjusting the bike, maintenance, clothing/gear, rules of the road
Session 2 – Smart Bike Handling (in-class & on-bike)
Topics: handling basics, shifting gears, where to ride, infrastructure, crashes and hazards, night riding, rural riding
Session 3 – Smart Road Riding (outside/on-bike)
Topics: drive train maintenance, riding with a group, sharing paths and trails, inclement weather, night riding, rural riding, flat fixing
Participants may complete session 1 and 2 in any order but must complete both 1 & 2 before signing up for the final session 3.
All sessions will meet at the Caffin Ave. SDA Church, Community Service Building, 1019 Caffin Ave.
- Wednesday, February 20, 5:30-7:30pm (Session 1)
- Thursday, February 21, 5:30-7:30pm (Session 2)
- Sunday, February 24, 10am-3pm (Session 3)
