🚲 New Orleans Safety & Mobility Summit Recap
Last month, Bike Easy joined city leaders, advocates, and community members at the New Orleans Safety and Mobility Summit to discuss the future of our streets as part of the The Safe Streets for All (SS4A) Safety Action Plan. The plan is a coordinated, citywide effort to understand and address the root causes of fatal and serious crashes, using crash history and predictive analysis and building on community input to recommend projects, policies, and programs that improve safety and mobility for all
The energy was high and the message was clear: safe, equitable transportation options must be a top priority.
We were proud to contribute ideas for better bike infrastructure, traffic calming measures, and policies that support people of all ages and abilities to ride safely. Thank you to everyone who showed up, shared their stories, and pushed for change!

✍️Sign the petition for pedestrianization of the French Quarter
Show support for a French Quarter with restricted non-essential vehicle access, traffic-calming measures, and expanded pedestrian-only areas.
Over the years, efforts to pedestrianize the French Quarter in New Orleans have aimed to balance the neighborhood’s historic charm with modern urban livability. City officials and advocacy groups have periodically proposed plans to reduce vehicle traffic—particularly along Bourbon Street and adjacent corridors—in order to enhance walkability, improve safety, and mitigate noise and pollution. These initiatives often focus on expanding sidewalk space, restricting vehicle access during peak hours, and promoting alternative transportation modes such as biking and transit. While proposals have gained support from some residents, preservationists, and tourism advocates, implementation has faced challenges related to delivery logistics, business access, and political consensus. Nonetheless, pilot projects and community feedback have played a key role in shaping more pedestrian-friendly strategies for this iconic and culturally rich district. Recently, efforts to pedestrianize the French Quarter are gaining momentum through Plan Vieux Carré, a bold vision to make New Orleans’ most iconic neighborhood safer, cleaner, and more enjoyable for everyone. By prioritizing people over cars, this plan aims to reduce vehicle congestion, improve air quality, enhance the visitor experience, and preserve the unique character of the Quarter. Community support is essential to bring this vision to life. Join the movement for a more walkable, vibrant Vieux Carré—sign the petition today and help shape the future of New Orleans.

The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) is partnering with LabMar Ferry Services, LLC, to launch a pilot program for light-night ferry service along the Algiers-Canal Street route. The pilot starts June 15 and runs through September 27. The pilot evaluates the viability and community impact of late-night ferry service for hospitality workers, musicians and other residents who rely on nighttime transportation.
