My name is Sydnee Tatum, and I am a new intern at Bike Easy. A part of Bike Easy’s vision is an equitable future where people of all backgrounds can bike and move about in the streets freely and safely. Unfortunately, safety is not always guaranteed in New Orleans as nearly every day of the week of March 10-16, 2025 saw a person killed who was bicycling or walking.

Part of my job is to create a comprehensive guide for victims of car crashes and their loved ones with resources for what to do after a crash. With this guide, we hope that you never have to use it, but in the event of a tragedy this will provide you with information to assist you through the process. Though I hope you do not need it, this document will be available on our website once it is completed. Amongst other things it will include what to do on the scene, how to interact with law enforcement, how to find a lawyer, and where to seek emotional support in the community.

The system that is supposed to help us often does not. However, if you would like to share you or your loved one’s story, I believe that advice from those who have experienced the same trauma can be of help to those who are in the shoes that you once were. I have created a Google form where you can share your experience if you would like to do so.
