Krewe du Cruise at Summer CampX

Bike Easy led a bike class in June, called Krewe du Cruise, at Summer CampX

Bike Easy values our community partners and opportunities to share educational experiences for people of all ages on bikes. For the second consecutive summer at First Line Schools’ Summer Camp X, middle schoolers were offered a bike class led by Bike Easy Instructors. The class was in high demand and grew a lot of excitement from campers. The class had 12 students.

Instructors Laura Harris and David Meza trained the class in rules of the road, safe biking techniques, route mapping and basic maintenance. They were able to explore the local neighborhood after completing safety drills in the Arthur Ashe School parking lot. Using their route mapping skills and riding as vehicles on the road, the class also took a ten mile round trip bike ride through City Park and the surrounding neighborhoods! They even participated in their own version of an alleycat race where they were able to demonstrate their bike skills and knowledge at each checkpoint.

The final day of camp was their opportunity to share about the Summer Camp X bike class experience. The campers set up an expo booth to educate family and visitors about all they learned to make them a better cyclist including a hand drawn bike map of Gentilly, a fix it station, and safety materials. Bike Easy is so proud of our Summer Camp X riders!
