Advocate and planner Naomi Doerner joins the Bike Easy team!

Bike Easy’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Naomi Doerner has been named our next Executive Director! Naomi is an experienced advocate and active transportation planner with a successful track record of creating inclusive, community-driven planning processes. “Naomi brings a wealth of experience in community engagement and advocacy work,” said James Wilson, Board president. “I’m excited to begin working with her to help Bike Easy make Greater New Orleans an even better place to ride a bicycle, no matter your age, ability or purpose. There’s much to do and I’m confident Naomi will help us get there!”

On being selected, Ms. Doerner said, “I am honored to be Bike Easy’s new Executive Director. It’s a dream job. I look forward to working with our existing partners and building new relationships. Together we will create a city that is easy, safe, and fun for everyone to walk and bike in—an equitable city. We all deserve this.”

Prior to Bike Easy, Naomi was the program manager for the KidsWalk Coalition at Tulane University’s Prevention Research Center, a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities initiative. In this capacity, she provided support to the City of New Orleans Department of Public Works as an embedded transportation planner. She also assisted nonprofits and schools with developing walking and bicycling programs. Before KidsWalk Coalition, Ms. Doerner lived in New York City where she was a transportation planner and co-founded a nonprofit urban planning and design education initiative for teens. She plans to draw upon these collective experiences in her new role to grow Bike Easy.

Naomi holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs and a Certificate of Geographic Information Systems from Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, GA. She also holds a Master of Urban Planning from the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University in New York, NY. Ms. Doerner speaks fluent Spanish. Most days she can be spotted on her yellow, upright bicycle riding through our city’s vibrant neighborhoods speaking with friends and local residents. Be on the lookout for her in your neighborhood!
