This month brings some major developments for mobility and street safety in New Orleans — from a critical bond vote happening THIS SATURDAY, to new bike lanes on Moss Street and Broad Street, to urgent calls for action on Tulane’s e-bike ban and the ongoing push for French Quarter pedestrianization. We’re also excited to share new resources, celebrate community wins, and invite you to join several important advocacy efforts shaping the future of our streets.

🚴♀️🚶 New Orleans — this Saturday, November 15, 2025, we have the chance to vote YES on the 2025 Bond Sale Propositions, a major investment in safer, greener, and more connected streets for everyone — without raising taxes.
Here’s what’s included in the proposed $510M package:
🏗️ Roads, Bridges & Streets — $200M+
Repairs and redesigns to make streets safer and more functional for all users — people walking, biking, rolling, riding transit, and driving.
🚶 Walking Paths & Greenways
Extensions to the Lafitte Greenway, a new People’s Avenue walking path, and more safe, low-stress routes to help people get around without needing a car.
🌳 Parks & Recreation — $40M+
Upgrades to green spaces and public recreation areas that connect directly to trails, bike networks, and community destinations.
💡 Streetlighting Upgrades
Brighter, more reliable lighting citywide — improving safety and visibility for people walking and biking after dark.
☀️ Clean Energy & Resilience Hubs
New solar fields, battery backups, and community resilience hubs to improve neighborhood safety and emergency preparedness.
🏖️ Lincoln Beach Restoration
Continued restoration and expanded public access to this treasured lakefront destination.
🏛️ Public Buildings & Safety Facilities
Renovation of the Municipal Auditorium and construction of a new secure evidence facility to modernize public safety systems.
⚠️ No New Taxes
This is NOT a new tax or a tax increase.
The bonds will be funded through the existing debt service millage already included in property taxes.
A YES vote supports Complete Streets — making it safer and easier for people of all ages and abilities to walk, bike, roll, and move through New Orleans.

🆕 🚴♀️ New Resource: Bike Easy’s Post-Crash Guide

⚠️ 🚫 Tulane University Bans E-Bikes on Campus
Tulane University recently announced a full ban on e-bikes across campus. In response, a petition is circulating urging the university to “Build Solutions, Not Bans.”

🚶♂️🚫 French Quarter Pedestrianization: Still Waiting for Progress
Despite widespread support and years of discussion, New Orleans has yet to see significant improvements toward pedestrianizing the French Quarter. Limiting motor vehicle access remains one of the most powerful steps the City could take to improve safety and enhance public life in this historic district.
Support efforts for people-first, safer French Quarter streets through Plan Vieux Carré.

🎉 🚴 New Bikeways Completed in New Orleans!
🌿 Moss Street Bike Lanes Along Bayou St. John

Fresh new bike lanes along Moss Street give people biking a comfortable, scenic, and safer route next to the Bayou — supporting recreation, commuting, and everyday travel through this beloved corridor.
🚲 Broad Street Bike Lanes & Pedestrian Safety Upgrades
The Broad Street Pedestrian Improvement Project, funded 100% through the federal Safe Routes to Public Places Program (SRTPPP), delivered:
• Upgraded ADA-accessible pedestrian countdown signals at Tulane Ave, Banks St, Canal St & Bienville Ave
• A new HAWK beacon at the Lafitte Greenway
• Full roadway resurfacing between Tulane Ave and St. Louis St
• Sidewalk repairs and new ADA ramps
• Upgraded ADA-accessible bus stops
These improvements create a safer, smoother, and more connected Broad Street for everyone walking, biking, rolling, riding transit, or driving.
🚲 Safer St. Claude

Flex posts at St. Claude & Elysian Fields are a start, but it’s apparent that far more is needed. We’re working with community partners — including BYMBO and the Bywater Neighborhood Association — to push for a corridor-wide redesign that truly prioritizes safety and accessibility.
🌍 The Week Without Driving New Orleans

From September 29 – October 5, residents across the city took part in the Week Without Driving New Orleans, challenging themselves to navigate daily life without a car.
A snapshot from the week shows a rider enjoying a ferry trip with their bike — capturing the joy and possibility of car-free mobility.
“I don’t drive much, but this week I tried not to drive at all. Walking, biking, and taking the bus feel so much healthier mentally and physically, but we could definitely use some improvements in this city.”
— Tiffany French, Week Without Driving participant
