New Orleans Bicyclists Want Traffic Violence Justice and Enforcement
CALL FOR TRAFFIC VIOLENCE JUSTICE AND ENFORCEMENT
Sign this petition which calls for the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) and the Orleans Parish District Attorney (DA) to press charges against perpetrators of traffic violence that kill or seriously injure bicyclists and pedestrians. We’ll hand deliver the petitions to the NOPD and DA..
After the recent tragedy on Chef Menteur Highway, the Greater New Orleans bicycling community has voiced concerns regarding the NOPD’s enforcement response to cases of traffic violence. No charges were filed at the site of the crash. [UPDATE: Charges were pressed against the driver and an arrest has been made.]
We know that high speed crashes involving vehicles and bicyclists or pedestrians almost always disproportionately impact the most vulnerable road users, walkers and bikers, negatively. We call upon the New Orleans Police Department to enforce existing traffic laws and to hold drivers liable when these violent types of crashes occur.
