We were recognized for implementing a passing the Complete Streets Ordinance in New Orleans in 2011. The first award for a policy initiative in the three year history of the award, was given to acknowledge the impact a city-wide policy can have to improve livability. The award committee was impressed by the broad coalition building, public outreach and education as well as the strength of the nationally recognized policy that was passed.
In accepting the award, Jamie Wine, Executive Director of Bike Easy noted, “This award is really for over a dozen dedicated organizations and committee members on the Sustainable Transportation Advisory Committee, Bike Easy is proud to represent this coalition today and accept the award on their behalf.”
Implementing this policy will be a 2013 policy priority for Bike Easy, as day-to-day work at the City will really determine the success of the Complete Streets Program.
