Moving Forward at Bike Easy

Tuesday, Dec 23, 2014

The recent departure of our Executive Director has caught many in the community by surprise. Bike Easy remains committed to our advocacy mission – to making bicycling easier, safer, and more fun in greater New Orleans. There is a dedicated staff and board of directors solidly behind the organization. Through this transition, we are moving forward with the events, campaigns, and outreach that have been the highlights of our past work. We hope you will join us, and let us serve you.

With this change in leadership occurring, the board of directors has taken some time to strategize about the path forward. We will be searching for a new Executive Director immediately at the beginning of 2015, and will be seeking a qualified and community-minded individual. We encourage recommendations and inquiries, and will be providing a description and timeline for this search shortly. In the meantime, board members have stepped up to manage the work of the organization, and work with staff to fulfill our obligations and meet our goals. During this transition, Bike Easy can be reached at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), at our website, on Facebook, and on Twitter.

A few examples of our ongoing work include:

  • Education Programs: Bicycle workshops will be held in schools and with community groups across New Orleans in 2015. These programs reach individuals of all ages and abilities, and will introduce many new people to bicycling. Recently, many generous donations helped us fund a youth bike fleet.
  • Baronne Street: Bike Easy will continue to work with the city and other community groups as the new bike lane is evaluated. Our message is clear: this lane has created a safe and inviting street in our downtown.
  • Upcoming Events: Planning for the annual spring events has already started. Bike-to-Work Day, the Bicycle Second Line, and Bike Valet around town are all coming your way in 2015.

Bike Easy is proud to serve as an advocate for anyone using a bicycle in and around New Orleans. This is a broad and diverse group, and one that can achieve great things together.

Sincerely,
Samuel Steinmetz
Board President
