New Orleans, La. 70119
FREE – all New Orleans Residents are welcome, not just those that live in District 3
Special guest McGruff the Crime Dog will be on hand for photos.
Normally $3 plus a notarized affidavidt, licensing your bike can cost you over $35! Get it all done at once, for free. Bike Easy is bringing a free notary, and NOPD is waiving the fee. We’ll also have bicycle safety staff, a mechanic and free give-aways at the event.
Why register your bike?
Bicycle licenses help NOPD identify and recover stolen bicycles. While the system is not perfect, when a bicycle is recovered, the first thing NOPD does is look up the serial number in their internal database. If you report a stolen bike, they’ll ask if it was registered. We are glad they have this system in place, and excited to collaborate with the NOPD.
Bike Easy seeks over the long-term a more accessible database so that bike shops, pawn shops and individuals can check the database before buying a used bike to make sure it’s not stolen. In the meantime, come down and get your bike(s) registered.
How to register your bike
All bikes to register need to have an identifying number. Most bicycles have a serial number, but bikes you build yourself might have this number covered or painted.
For the event, bring these items:
- Bring your bike
- Bring your photo ID
- We will have an affidavit for you to fill out and sign, and a notary on site
And you’re done!
Feeling a little rusty?
We’re offering a free bicycle safety workshop at this event as well. Bring your wheels and learn the safest way to ride your bike.
This Event is part of Bike Easy’s Community Bicycle Workshops Project.
