Ride to Build Better Bikeways >>> CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER
Thu, Apr 18, 2019
4:00 – 8:00 pm
Meet at Sojourner Truth Center – 2200 Lafitte Avenue (on Lafitte Greenway @ Galvez St)
Bike to East New Orleans Regional Library – 5641 Read Blvd
The City of New Orleans is hosting public meetings to gain community input on Moving New Orleans Bikes, it’s initiative to create a citywide protected, low-stress bikeway network. The last of these seven meetings will be in New Orleans East, a hugely important and often under-invested area of our city. Because of the East’s location across the Industrial Canal, residents have an especially hard time commuting back and forth between home and work, school, or either vital resources.
To underscore the conditions of bikeways generally, and the particular challenge of connecting many of our neighborhoods, Bike Easy is leading a ride from the heart of the east bank and New Orleans’ finest biking facility, the Lafitte Greenway, to the final public meeting at the start of the City’s Moving New Orleans Bikes — protected bikeway planning open houses.
Mayor Latoya Cantrell is scheduled to take part in Thursday’s bikeway planning open house! Come meet the mayor and thank her for committing $10 million over these next two years to plan, design, and build roughly 75 miles of protected, connected bikeways!
Bike Easy is encouraging everyone to come out to support a network of connected and protected bikeways! Your voice is crucial to creating a strong collective vision for increasing safe and equitable transportation options. These open house style meetings are interactive opportunities to identify mobility challenges, desired destinations, and potential routes.
This Event is part of Bike Easy’s Advocacy Project.
