The City of New Orleans is partnering with Bike Easy to test safer biking connections in the downtown area – critical to our goals of developing a network of routes where all residents feel comfortable biking to places of employment, education, services, and play. This process of testing, often called pop-ups (or tactical urbanism), allows for short-term trial of reconfiguring streets to make them better for people’s everyday needs. For an excellent overview of how this process works, see Bike Easy’s write-up on the project they led with City and UNO support last fall on St. Bernard Avenue.
Bike Easy is convening a design charrette to review the overall goal and designs for a temporary biking installation connecting the Lafitte Greenway to the French Quarter. This charrette is a process to evaluate alternatives and provide further input for finalizing as well as review the next steps for the process. We encourage residents, property owners, organizations, and commuters to attend and participate in this discussion.
