Central City: Organizing a Biking & Walking Committee
Wed, Oct 18, 2017

New Orleans, LA
Local biking & walking committees have become proven vehicles for residents across the country to improve their neighborhood streets. When even a small group of local residents are committed and organized, real and lasting change can be realized in how streets are used, their design and infrastructure. Here in New Orleans, we’ve become a national leader in the number of residents biking and walking. Unfortunately we’re also a leader in the amount of people hurt while biking and walking. Too many of our streets and sidewalks remain in disrepair. We’re daily needlessly put in danger of a life-threatening encounter with an automobile.
At Bike Easy, we’re moving to foster the creation of neighborhood biking and walking committees across Greater New Orleans. Beginning with our local neighborhood: Central City, we’ll by hosting a community meeting focused on organizing a neighborhood committee focused on improving the conditions for biking, walking, and transit to be held Wednesday October 18th at YAYA Arts Center.
We’re enlisting local residents, you and your neighbors, to be the spokespeople for Central City streets. Working together, step by step, we can make the changes to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone on their way to work, to home, and everywhere in between.
This Event is part of Bike Easy’s Advocacy Project.
