Let’s Connect the Crescent—Volunteer Now!

Posted by Heather Haylett on August 11, 2018 in Advocacy

Something big is about to blast off.

This September Bike Easy, a broad coalition of community partners, and a boatload of volunteers will create one of the largest-ever “pop-up” street projects anywhere in the world. We’re going to show how our streets can be remade for everyone in New Orleans — for bikers, walkers, transit-riders, and drivers.

Be a part of it! Go to ConnectTheCrescent.com for more information, let us know if you’d like to volunteer, and share with your friends and family!

Connect the Crescent will be a 3-month demonstration of a connected, protected transportation network consisting of enhanced crosswalks, improved transit stops, and protected bikeways featuring barriers separating people biking from automobile traffic on routes connecting the French Quarter and Central Business District to surrounding neighborhoods. As a test trial for different varieties of protected bikeways in an integrated transportation network, the goal is to create experiences, conversation, and evaluative data to inform future permanent infrastructure improvements.

Ways to get involved today:

Help us canvass local residents and businesses
French Quarter — Saturday, Aug 18th, 9am-12pm
Central City — Tuesday, Aug 21st, 5-8pm
Central Business District — Thursday, Aug 23rd, 11am-2pm

Help us install ‘Connect the Crescent’ protected bikeways and crosswalks in September – Installation dates are Sept 1, 2, 5, 8 & 11, we need your help!

This is a huge opportunity to showcase the benefits of a connected, protected network of bikeways for people of all ages and abilities. Your support and involvement are crucial to making it a success. Sign up today!

If you have any questions or would like more information about the project and other ways you can be involved, email Virginia Brisley, Bike Easy – Outreach Coordinator.
