Welcoming Andrea McNeil and Doc Griggs to the Bike Easy Board
Two great community figures join the Bike Easy Board of Directors
Bike Easy is excited to welcome two new board members to our 13-member volunteer Board of Directors! Andrea McNeil has a long history of public service, and comes to the Bike Easy Board after participating in the Claiborne Corridor Ambassadors Program. Doc Griggs is a well-known health advocate who has worked with Bike Easy for years to lead bike rides and promote healthy living.
Many thanks to our two out-going board members, Howard Luna and Lyn Morein, for their service to Bike Easy and the community. Both of these dedicated bicycle advocates have decided to leave their terms early in order to make way for others who currently have greater capacity to fill the roles on the board. Howard has become a St. Bernard Parish Councilperson and Lyn is managing the opening of a new restaurant, and we are excited for what they’ll accomplish in those demanding roles.
Andrea McNeil has a passion for community service, and during the course of her time in the Claiborne Corridor Ambassador Program, her leadership skills stood out. The Roll with Me, Walk with Me Second Line, which marked the first Active Transportation Advocacy Day, was her idea, and she supported the full group of Ambassadors to ensure it was a huge success.
Andrea has a proven track record of success – from harnessing the support of faith-based leaders to support the successful Smoke-Free NOLA campaign to breaking fundraising goals while working at Ochsner Health Systems – and she has broad experience in fundraising, organizational development, public relations, marketing, organizing meetings and special events as well as experience in recruiting and coaching/mentoring staff members and volunteers within nonprofit and business environments.
Doc Griggs rediscovered the joy of bicycling a number of years ago when he rode in a Bike Easy Bicycle Second Line. He took to biking, and it helped him become and feel healthier! He now incorporates bicycling into his overall push to “Get checked. Get fit. Get moving!™” and recently became a certified League Cycling Instructor to further build his bicycle instruction and safety skills.
“Doc Griggs” is the health and wellness awareness persona of Dr. Eric Griggs, a New Orleans-based community medicine physician and health educator who has dedicated his professional life to raising health and wellness awareness in the New Orleans community. He is the Health and Wellness Ambassador for the City of New Orleans, a member of the Governor’s Louisiana Children’s Cabinet Advisory Board, and works for Access Health Louisiana. Doc also uses various media platforms to educate and inspire people about healthy living. You can catch him on Fox 8 on Thursdays, WRNO Talk Radio on Tuesday mornings, and on his own Thursday afternoon show from 1pm-2pm on WBOK radio. He also contributes to local African-American print publications.
Andrea and Doc bring excellent experience, community connections, and passion for improving our region through bicycling. Everyone at Bike Easy extends a hearty welcome, and we’re excited to have them on board!
