Bike Light - Bike Right !
Our outreach team hits the streets for NOLA Bike to Work Week, with support from NiteRider!
Through Bike to Work Week, Bike Easy is heading out to the streets to promote safety through visibility – giving away NiteRider bike lights !
For those of you following us on twitter – did you figure out where the Bike Easy street team was from @bikeeasy’s tweet on Monday?
We set up at Calliope on Camp St and Erato St for NOLA Bike to Work Week’s first twilight NiteRider bike light giveaway. This particular location was chosen because – according to the University of New Orleans 2013 Pedestrian and Bicycle Count Report – bikers riding past the intersection of Camp St & Calliope increased by over 100% in the last 3 years.
The riders were few but fierce, and we suspect the early morning rains kept commuter numbers down at dusk. But we were happy to put lights on bikes that we did see, and made more bikers in New Orleans visible at night. Thanks so much to our enthusiastic volunteers, Janice & Matt, as well as our intern, Damu, for their help on Camp St – and to our new bike light outreach partner, NiteRider, for helping us to promote rider safety.
Depending on weather, the Bike Easy bike light street team will be out at various locations throughout the rest of this week and next week. Follow us on twitter for clues to our next location…
IMPORTANT: NOLA Bike to Work Week events are postponed this week due to extended forecasts for April Showers. Details about the updated NOLA Bike to Work Week schedule can be found here.
