GRoW Saturday - Walk and Roll Bicycle Clinic is a Success!
Bike Easy Partners with GRoW Saturdays and Youth Empowerment Project to Hold a Family Bike Clinic!
Last Saturday morning, Bike Easy joined the GRoW Saturdays programming to work with thirty young people to ride bikes, practice safe riding skills, and get some exercise in Gentilly! GRoW Saturdays at Medard Nelson School is a free program open to all youth ages 8-18 for fun activities on Saturdays throughout the year.
GRoW students rode bikes through the Youth Bike Rodeo challenge courses designed by New Orleans League Cycling Instructors. The youth rotated through activities like the slow roll race, scanning and signaling practice, rock dodge and hazard avoidance, and a slalom course. The rodeo culminated in a bike ride around the neighborhood where a bike train of adults and youth rode through Gentilly along the Wisner trail. It was a perfect Saturday to ride!
Bike Easy was also proud to partner with the Youth Empowerment Project’s Trafigura Work & Learn Center to hold a community Bike Clinic at the same time during the GRoW Saturdays activities. Two youth mechanics from the Work & Learn Center set up bike stands and provided bike repair services and fixed flats, while also giving away bike lights, patch kits and tire levers for all who needed those tools.
We all had a great time being at Nelson for GRoW Saturdays. Bike Easy is grateful for all the hard work in bringing such a successful event to the community, and looks forward to more events like this Walk & Roll Bike Clinic!
